Whale Orbit / Insider Tracker

Insider Tracker

People running a company buy its stock with their own money. Or sell it.

Purchases and sales that executives, directors and large shareholders report to the SEC, each with a 0–100 weight score for how much the move weighed on the person who made it. We reassemble repeated trades into one move, bring the heaviest to the top, and every ticker is one search away on RECON.

Every Form 4, with the role behind it and the score next to it.

How it works

  1. 1

An insider files a Form 4

Executives, directors and 10% owners report their trades to the SEC within two business days, as the law requires.

  2. 2

    We weigh the move 0–100

Capital committed, share of their holding, seniority. Only open-market purchases and sales are scored.

  3. 3

You read it, next to the news

Every ingredient is shown next to the raw filing, so you can disagree with our weighting. Then check the same ticker on RECON.

Pattern finding

  • Accumulation: the same insider trading the same stock in the same direction more than once, reassembled into one move with its total, from $200K up.
  • High weight: the heaviest moves, 70 and up, in a view of their own, so a CFO spending a large share of their holding does not drown in routine sales.
  • Whales: insiders ranked by traded value, with the tickers they touched.
  • A 30-day recap: purchases against sales, and the most-traded tickers.
  • Clusters, several insiders in one company moving the same way within 7 days: coming before launch.

Linked to RECON

  • Search any ticker from the tracker on RECON and read the news around the filing.
  • Insider activity shown on RECON stories, the way Congress trades already are: coming before launch.

What you see

  • Every open-market purchase and sale reported on Form 4, with the role behind it: C-suite, officer or director, 10% owner.
  • A 0–100 weight score: how much capital was committed, what share of their holding it was, how senior they are.
  • Grants, option exercises and gifts left out, so a score always means money that moved on the open market.
  • Filters for purchase or sale, ticker, insider, size and weight, over 7 to 90 days or all time.
  • A page for every insider: filings, purchases and sales, traded value, median filing lag and the holding each filing reports.

Where the data comes from

  • SEC Form 4 filings, received through a financial data provider.
  • Every entry links to the original filing.

How the score works

  • The score describes the filing. It does not forecast anything. It says how large the move was for the person who made it.
  • Every ingredient is shown, so you can disagree with our weighting and read the raw filing instead.

What it does not do

  • A high score is not a recommendation and not a signal to act.
  • No performance figures, past or projected.
